Rutube a completely redesigned video hosting has become a clone of YouTube

Gazprom-Media has relaunched Rutube, which is a recognized domestic competitor to YouTube and the largest Russian video hosting service. The design of the service was significantly changed, the player was redesigned, and new useful functions appeared.

Gazprom-Media bought out Rutube in December 2020, and then it was announced its intention to make the platform “no worse than YouTube”. As we can see, the new owners reacted rather peculiarly to the promise – the new design made Rutube almost a complete clone of YouTube.

“Join our channel on Telegram”

Users are offered a side menu with the main sections “Home”, “Popular”, “Broadcasts”, “Podcasts”, “Video Games” and “Training”, and fifteen additional subsections. Popular bloggers and major TV channels received separate tabs.

Rutube CEO Roman Maksimov said:

“We reformatted the platform in a short time, changed the content policy, and launched new sections. Now you can watch and listen to content in a fast and convenient player. These are not all innovations and changes – we still have a lot of work to do ”

Functional changes include the ability to watch videos without registration, upload videos through the built-in studio, create thematic playlists, as well as a system for making money on content.

The beta version of the redesigned Rutube has now been launched. Shortly, there will be a function of live broadcasts, and in the third quarter – sale of goods on the air and download of podcasts.
