YouTube advertising policy update relaxes monetization restrictions on contentious content

In recent years, YouTube has implemented more detailed and strict review standards for the content allowed on the platform. For content that violates the community guidelines, under less extreme circumstances, the related revenue of the video is usually canceled (de-monetization), which means that the creator may suffer financial losses when publishing potentially problematic content.

However, judging from the recently updated advertising policy, Google has appropriately relaxed YouTube’s content controls, such as allowing some swear words to be explored within the first 30 seconds of the video, but some words obviously have to exercise restraint.

Secondly, creators are allowed to use the words “Hell” and “Damn” differently in thumbnails and media content. In addition, in some cases of ridicule, adult topics will not be punished.

The company further explained that it is expanding its ability to monetize educational, documentary, and news content, and may involve violent and sensitive content related to law enforcement actions such as anti-drugs.

For issues that have certain controversies, YouTube will also appropriately relax monetization restrictions, such as non-graphic objective discussions in videos.
