Apple TV may soon get support for 120Hz video output, hints tvOS 14.5

Recently there are a bunch of codes discovered in the latest tvOS 14.5 betas which suggests that the next-generation Apple TV set-top box will support 120Hz video output.

Limited by the chip and operating system, the current Apple TV set-top box based on the HDMI 2.0 port can only support video output up to 4K 60Hz (85Hz when the aspect ratio is 16:9).

Specifically, 9to5Mac claims that Apple has added multiple related strings to the PineBoard in the Apple TV user interface.

Rumor has it that Apple will launch the so-called “Apple TV 6” sometime in 2021, supplemented by a higher-performance chipset, an enhanced gaming experience, and a redesigned “Apple TV Remote” remote control.

If the news is reliable, the new generation of Apple TV set-top boxes will obviously be upgraded to the HDMI 2.1 specification to support 4K 120Hz video output. It is expected that we are expected to see it at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2021) in June at the earliest.
