April update for Google Pixel 5 boosts the performance significantly
Previously, Google’s “pro son” Pixel series smartphones all caused the performance degradation when they received the first stable update of Android 11. As a monthly security update, we originally did not have any expectations for the performance changes of Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G smartphones.
However, multiple reports have confirmed that the April update did bring a significant improvement in GPU and game performance to the Pixel 5 smartphone.
WCCFTech pointed out that the first Android 11 version caused the Pixel to be slightly inferior compared to devices of similar specifications. However, Andreas Proschofsky said in a tweet that the April update has brought significant changes to the Pixel 5 smartphone.

In a follow-up tweet, @suka_hiroaki said that the performance improvement is as high as 30~50%, and the Pixel 5 model even has a more eye-catching performance in the benchmark test.
In addition, Andrei F. of AnandTech confirmed that this update almost doubled the running score of his injured Pixel 5. Considering that the specifications of Pixel 4a 5G are basically similar, it is expected that the April update will bring the same effect.
Although it is not clear what exactly caused the Pixel 5’s GPU performance to increase significantly, this is likely to be a problem with Android 11 itself, especially when Google fell into the ditch when it first released a stable version.
Turns out the April update for the Pixel 5 is a *much* bigger deal than expected. You might already have seen that Google touts "Performance optimization for certain graphics-intensive apps and games". This lead me to redo some benchmarks, and the results are pretty stunning. 1/
