Samsung introduced its new flagship smartphones called the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ back in 2018. Both of these premium handsets highlighted powerful hardware and best-in-class features at that time.
In terms of software, the Galaxy S9 lineup shipped with Android 8-based Samsung Experience UX out of the box. Further, the company delivered two major Android upgrades including the Android 9-based One UI 1 and Android 10-based One UI 2.
However, these older flagship devices are currently running the One UI 2.5 version which is based on Android 10 OS. It was the last major software update for the Galaxy S9 models and they will not get the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update.

Aside from this, Samsung also rolls out new security updates for the S9 units on a monthly basis as it belongs to the flagship segment. Meanwhile, it looks like the company has finally completed its commitment of providing three years of monthly security updates as the Galaxy S9 moved to the quarterly update schedule.
According to the official support page, which was published recently, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ phones are now listed with the phones that are getting new security updates every three months. Therefore, it’s big disappointing news for the owners of the Galaxy S9 series smartphones.
However, the Korean tech giant has released the April 2021 security update for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ phones a few days ago and it still not available widely. Accordingly, after this security update support amendment, these device owners will receive security updates 4 times a year.
