Apple has recently been subject to a class-action lawsuit, this time being accused of profiting from illegal gambling apps in its App Store.
In the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday, the gaming app developed by DoubleU Games Co. was specifically mentioned. The complaint supports that, according to state laws, these apps have constituted illegal gambling crimes.
Simply put, this lawsuit sued Apple for operating as an “unlicensed casino”, allowing and assisting developers to complete illegal gambling activities, and questioned these free gambling games: although these games use game currency Instead of real money, users can use real money to buy more game coins or chips.

The complaint stated that “the opportunity to spend money in games to win more game time violates” anti-gambling laws in at least 25 states, and they are seeking class-action lawsuits in these 25 states.
The report also pointed out that most of the revenue of such apps comes from a small group of players, who are “specific targets” because they are willing to spend a lot of money. “Therefore, Apple actively supports, allows, promotes, and profits from illegal gambling apps,” the prosecution wrote.
One plaintiff spent $4.99 in the game, while the other bought at least 5 coins, each at least $107.99, in addition to additional in-app purchases. This is not the first lawsuit accusing Apple of hosting or benefiting from illegal gambling apps.
For example, in October 2020, a woman sued Apple for providing illegal gambling apps after spending thousands of dollars to buy game currency. In January of this year, Apple was accused of charging 30% of the gambling apps and was subject to a class-action lawsuit.
