HTC to launch new AR/VR devices for commercial market

Posted on

The domestic VR/AR virtual reality market has cooled down in the past few years. Although the former Android brother has been a pioneer, his performance has been declining, and the mobile phone business has plummeted.

However, HTC has repeatedly emphasized that not only will it not give up its mobile phone business, but will also continue to increase investment in AR/VR. The latest news is that they will launch a new generation of VR/AR equipment in the Q2 quarter.

Different from the previous HTC Vive helmet which focuses on the consumer market, this new AR/VR product is not for individual consumers, but for the commercial market. Although the details have not yet been announced, the commercial market has been affected by AR/VR in recent years due to higher demand.

This also means a change in HTC’s AR/VR product strategy. Previously, the AR/VR helmets launched by HTC and another major rival, Oculus, were all focused on the PC game market, but they were not commercially successful. Players experienced a few fresh experiences. I’m not interested. AR/VR games are immature.

According to the financial report information released by HTC, revenue in the Q4 quarter of last year was NT$1.6 billion, an increase of 4.37% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year decline of 11.8%. The gross profit margin was 27.9%, the operating rate was -80.9%, and the after-tax loss was NT$1.07 billion.

Thanks to the performance of the Q4 quarter, HTC’s annual revenue in 2020 was 5.81 billion Taiwan dollars (1.33 billion yuan), down 42.03% year-on-year, operating interest rate -110%, and an after-tax loss of 6.02 billion, which is also narrowing compared to 2019.
