New Chromebook with MediaTek CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU to be available soon

Although the acquisition of ARM has not yet been approved, Nvidia can’t wait to show off the ARM computing ecosystem that it has high hopes for.  The company has previously used ARM technology in some products, but today, the company announced the latest Gravion2 processor and a larger processor partner program.

Obviously, Nvidia hopes to continue to grow the ARM ecosystem and exert a huge influence in areas such as autonomous vehicles, cloud computing, and streaming games. Interestingly, Nvidia has also taken an important step towards the Chromebook market, such as trying to match RTX GPUs with MediaTek’s CPUs.

Due to the entry-level market positioning, early Chromebooks generally left people with a negative impression of low price, low quality, and performance scum, but they can at least cope with a lot of teaching work through Web Apps.

At the same time, the Chromebook configuration in recent years has begun to gradually move up and down. Unfortunately, their CPUs are mostly supported by Intel, while ARM is far behind.

The good news is that driven by the Apple M1 Mac, the Apple Silicon chip based on the self-developed ARM architecture has conveyed to the outside world that ARM can also have a very high energy efficiency ratio.

As time matures, Nvidia also decided to join hands with MediaTek to build a reference design platform. These include high-performance ARM processors from MTK, and powerful RTX graphics hardware units from Nvidia.

Recently, MediaTek has by virtue of the DNT (Dimensity) Series 5G chipset, in the smartphone market has made quite remarkable progress.

In addition to Chrome OS, the new platform will also support Linux (NVIDIA will provide a supporting SDK/software development kit), but (for the time being) does not include Windows.

For Microsoft and Qualcomm ( Snapdragon 8cx chipset on Surface ), which have already reached cooperation before, this is obviously a rather delicate challenge.
