Trendforce expects the global server shipments to increase by 5% in 2021

TrendForce today released its global server market forecast for 2021. The report shows that in recent years, global companies are simultaneously facing rapidly changing market demands and the high degree of uncertainty of the new crown epidemic, which has prompted companies to continue to increase their demand for cloud services in the past two years.

Among them, the demand for servers in ultra-large-scale data centers accounted for more than 40% in the fourth quarter of last year, and there is a possibility that this year will be close to 45%. It is expected that the global server shipment growth rate in 2021 will exceed 5%, and the annual growth rate of ODM Direct shipments will exceed 15%.

TrendForce expects that the number of orders received by ODM manufacturers is increasing quarter by quarter, and the order growth rate in the second quarter of 2021 is expected to reach 15-18%. In addition, compared to the off-season in the first quarter, server brand factories are expected to grow at a rate of 20% in the second quarter.

Despite the current global shortage of chips and electronic components, TrendForce has learned that server vendors have also turned to a more flexible strategy in procurement, increasing from a single supplier to a two to three supply model. Avoid the crisis of being discontinued.

TrendForce believes that the current supply of components including BMC and PMIC can meet the demand of the server production line, and there will be no significant chain disconnection crisis in the short term.

In the Chinese market, TrendForce said that in the first quarter of 2021, China’s server usage accounted for about 27.2% of the world’s total. This is due to the fact that most domestic telecom practitioners use Inspur and Huawei’s server products. These two vendors are expected to have server products in 2021. Shipments will continue to grow slightly.
