TCL announced the concept of a foldable mobile phone, called Fold’n Roll, which combines the company’s “dragon hinge” technology and an expandable display panel, and the result is a 6.87-inch mobile phone that can be expanded to 8.85 inches and 10 inches in size.
Moreover, the “Fold’n’Roll” itself adopts a concave folding mechanism with the screen outwards, which is 6.87 inches when folded, and the display area after unfolding can reach 8.85 inches, and after further stretching, the screen area can be increased to 10 inches.
TCL stated that it is “still exploring the technical specifications of this type of equipment,” although Fold n’Roll will not be available soon. But TCL said it plans to launch some kind of foldable phone before the end of 2021.
Besides, those foldable phones are currently mostly high-end devices, and TCL may be able to provide a lower-cost option. Samsung has hinted that it will launch a lower-cost flexible device, but before that, its current Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold 2 are still very expensive.
