South Korean memory chip manufacturer SK Hynix has established an internal fab equipment R&D team, which is directly led by the company’s top management and has also hired external experts.
Korean media reports show that SK Hynix’s newly formed equipment R&D team has hired an expert from outside and appointed an executive vice president from within the company to lead the team, directly reporting to Jin Kyo, the company’s president of product and production.
In the report, the South Korean media also mentioned that SK Hynix had several smaller R&D teams before, which were also focused on fab equipment, but they were small in scale and were not directly led by the company’s top management.
SK Hynix’s newly formed equipment R&D team will focus on the equipment of the fab and will study the data signal processing and measurement systems of circuits, processes, and equipment.
According to the latest information, SK Hynix has established a high-standard equipment R&D team and also hired external experts because they internally agreed that it is necessary to enhance their understanding of the equipment to maintain their competitiveness in the market.
People familiar with the matter also revealed that SK Hynix internally believes that strengthening the understanding of equipment will help arrange appropriate work and raise issues related to the equipment field.
The newly formed wafer equipment R&D team will also expand cooperation with foreign equipment manufacturers and cooperate with domestic companies in equipment development.
