Xia Huaxia, Vice President and Chief Scientist of Meituan, said: “The new generation of unmanned delivery vehicles is based on the needs of Meituan’s delivery business scenarios and is the latest solution for low-speed instant delivery for all outdoor scenarios.

Meituan’s new generation of self-developed unmanned delivery vehicles has undergone many upgrades and iterations on the basis of the previous generation, with a loading capacity of 150kg, a volume of nearly 540L, and a maximum delivery speed of 20km/h.

After 5 years of testing and operation, it has passed 31 project tests including vehicle performance, comprehensive durability, and low temperature and cold environment. Autonomous driving technology is more mature and the performance is more stable.

It can meet the requirements of 24 hours a day operation, and the city road continues to drive mileage. Reaching 80km, it can sense obstacles 150 meters away and decelerate automatically.

Along with this, through five dimensions including safety design, a full-process safety system including pre-prevention, mid-event supervision, and post-event disposal during the operation process has been established to ensure the safety of the unmanned delivery process.

The production process of the new generation of self-developed unmanned delivery vehicles partly uses the automotive industry standards to basically achieve the requirements of wire control, digitization, and consistency of vehicles, and initially have standardized mass production capabilities.

It is supposed that in the next three years, Meituan will land in many regions and cities such as Shunyi, Yizhuang, and Shenzhen in Beijing to realize unmanned delivery services in business scenarios like food delivery, grocery shopping, and flash shopping.
