Industry sources revealed that Taiwanese panel manufacturer and semiconductor display technology company AUO entered the Samsung microLED TV supply chain by providing glass backplanes. The company will release it in 2021 and start shipping in half a year.
AU Optronics was formerly known as Daqi Technology and was established in August 1996. In 2001, it merged with Lianyou Optoelectronics and changed its name to AU Optronics.
In 2006, it acquired Guanghui Electronics again. The company has a complete LCD production line from generations 3.5 to 8.5, providing 1.1-inch to 85-inch panels covering various display applications.
In 2020, the company’s global shipments of TV panels will be 2.07 million, a decrease of 16.9% from 2019; global shipments of monitor panels will be 25.68 million, a decrease of 11.5% from 2019.
Moreover, the basic technologies of TFT-LCD, AMOLED, and new display technologies including flexible display are all semiconductor technologies, which can be collectively referred to as semiconductor displays.
Semiconductor display can be defined as a general term for display technologies that independently control each smallest display unit through semiconductor devices.
