Tesla CEO Elon Musk wanted to change the way the company sells solar panels. In a tweet late Wednesday, Musk said that starting next week, all sales of Tesla’s solar products will be sold together with its energy storage battery Powerwall.
Musk said in a subsequent tweet “Solar energy will be exclusively provided to Powerwall. Powerwall will only be connected between the “utility meter” and the main circuit breaker of the house, which can be installed super simply and seamlessly. Whole-house backup.”
In fact, Musk’s decision is not entirely out of thin air. In January of this year, he stated on Tesla’s fourth-quarter earnings conference call that the company is focusing on integrating Powerwall with its solar energy division.
A week ago, many customers waiting for the installation of Tesla’s solar roof products reported that they received a new contract that increased the installation price by 70%.
It is unclear whether adding Powerwall to all sales of Tesla’s solar products will increase its price.
