Banishing Battery Anxiety on iOS: Recently, when I upgraded my iPhone to a newer model, I noticed that the battery percentage has disappeared. This is a bit disturbing. I like to see the battery percentage on the iPhone.
Without it, the small white battery icon is not accurate enough, it can hardly indicate exactly how long my iPhone can be used. However, I quickly learned that the battery percentage has not disappeared, it just moved. In the latest version of iOS, you can display the iPhone battery percentage in many ways.
1. Show Percentage in the Status Bar: If your iPhone has a physical home button, you can display the battery percentage in the iPhone status bar. It will be displayed in the upper right corner of the screen, next to the battery icon. If you don’t see the percentage, open the “Settings” app, click on “Battery”, and then turn on “Battery Percentage”.
Newer iPhones that do not have a physical home button do not have this option. This is because the notch with the face ID sensor at the top of the screen does not leave enough space for the battery icon and percentage. However, there are many other ways to find the battery percentage on the iPhone.
2. The iPhone Control Center: All iPhones will display the battery percentage in the Control Center. You can easily get this setting screen with just one swipe. If your iPhone has a physical home button, you can access the control center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
If you have a newer iPhone, just swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen. The iPhone’s battery power percentage is displayed at the top of the “Control Center”. If you are using a larger device, then only one hand can release the upper right corner. Fortunately, there is a convenient shortcut to double-click the back of your iPhone to call the control center.
This is how to set it up
- Open the Settings app
- Click Accessibility and then tap Touch
- Next, scroll down and tap Back Tap
- Choose Double Tap, and then choose Control Center
From now on, you can tap twice on the back of the iPhone to bring up the Control Center. This is an easy way to display battery percentage and quickly access other settings such as brightness, airplane mode, and media controls.
3. The iOS 14 Battery Widget: iOS 14 brings new customization options to iPhone users in the form of widgets. Android customers have been enjoying these pleasures for many years, so it’s great to see Apple implement its own interpretation of this popular feature.
Many system widgets can be added to the home screen, but if you want to pay attention to the current battery level, you must add a battery widget. Watch the video below to learn how to add widgets in iOS 14.
If you swipe on different types of battery widgets, you will notice a variety of different sizes. The larger widget will show not only the percentage of your iPhone’s battery level, but also the percentage of any connected devices such as Bluetooth headsets or Apple Watch.
4. Show Battery Percentage While Charging: You may have seen this situation before, but when the iPhone is charging, you can check the battery percentage from the home screen. Just tap the screen to wake it up or press the power button.
On the lock screen, you can replace the current battery percentage with the date under the clock. Remember, you can quickly charge the battery of the iPhone 8 to 50% power in about 30 minutes. When you use a Lightning to USB-C cable and pair it with a power adapter rated at 18W or higher, fast charging is possible.
5. If in Doubt, Ask Siri: Did you know that Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, can tell you how much battery you have left? This is especially useful if you don’t have any free hands, or if you are going out in a hurry. Just say: “Hey Siri, what is my battery level?”
It will proudly announce the current battery level and display it as a number on the iPhone screen. Everyone knows that Siri does not have a high reputation as a particularly useful virtual assistant, but for quick tasks like this, it is an ideal tool for getting the job done.
