With the launch of Android 12 Developer Preview, Pixel phones may get a new face-based auto-rotation option.
With today’s auto-rotation feature, your phone will enter landscape mode, and you want it to stay in portrait mode for easy reading.
With Android Pie, the phone received a convenient button that can rotate the display, which is visible when your phone is put aside and auto-rotation is off.
Those who use the phone while lying on their side, keep the auto-rotation off and just use this button to rotate the screen.
Furthermore, Android 12 is set to bring an optional, face-based version of Auto-Rotate to Pixel phones.
How it works
- The autorotation feature on Android phones uses data from the gyroscope and accelerometer to change the screen orientation.
- Google’s upcoming smart autorotate feature will use your phone’s front-facing camera to check which way your head is turned when you’re looking at the screen.
