How to enable fingerprint lock on WhatsApp for Android?

Posted on

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging applications with many features. One of them is the ability to set up a fingerprint lock on an Android device.

WhatsApp has allowed users on iPhones to use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock apps for some time. It finally added fingerprint unlocking to the Android version.

Smartphone manufacturers like OnePlus and Xiaomi have a built-in app locker, so this feature does not seem to be important to those who own them. However, if you want to use WhatsApp’s fingerprint lock on your device, please follow the steps below.

STEPS:

  • Make sure you are on the latest version of WhatsApp.
  • Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  • Click on the overflow button (three dots) at the top right corner.
  • Now, click on ‘Settings’.
  • Then go to Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock.
  • Now, enable the toggle for ‘Unlock with fingerprint’.
  • Once you have enabled fingerprint lock, you can set the duration after which you will have to authenticate using your fingerprint to unlock WhatsApp.
  • You can choose between ‘Immediately’, ‘After 1 minute’ and ‘After 30 minutes.
  • Finally, you have the option to choose whether the new message notifications show the message content and sender while the app is locked.
