How to enter an IP Address into the Address Bar?

An Internet Protocol address is a series of numbers that indicate a location on the network. IP addresses are essential to the operation of the Internet and other types of networks.

Usually, we don’t see IP addresses because we use words, called “domain names” that the network translates into IP addresses through domain name servers.

Any content accessed through a domain name can be accessed through an IP address, but not all IP addresses contain a domain name.

STEPS:

  • Click on the address bar in your browser. The address in the address bar should be highlighted.
  • Press the “Backspace” or “Delete” key to delete the address.
  • Type the appropriate prefix for the IP address.
  • If you are attempting to access an Internet website or a router, type: http:// If you want to connect to a computer on your local network, type: \ If the IP address is for a File Transfer Protocol file server, type: ftp://
  • Type the numerical IP address.
  • IP addresses consist of four number segments of one to three digits each, for example, 74.125.226.227 and 208.80.152.201.
  • Press the “Enter” or “Return” key.
