Global smartwatch shipments rose by 16% in Q3: Counterpoint

Counterpoint, a market research organization, announced the third quarter of the 2021 global smartwatch market report on November 22. Statistics show that shipments of such products in the quarter increased by 16% year-on-year, and continued to maintain a significant growth trend compared with the previous quarter.

Moreover, Apple’s Apple Watch series accounted for 21.8%, ranking first, and its market share has declined compared with the same period last year. This is due to the late delivery of the Apple Watch Series 7 series. Thanks to the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series, the brand’s market share increased from 9.9% to 14.4%, while jumping to second place.

Furthermore, Huami Technology’s Amazfit series of smartwatches have a good development momentum, ranking third with a share of 5.8%, tied with imoo. This is due to the increase in sales of Amazfit in the European market.

The report shows that the shipments of Indian smartwatch brands Noise and boAt are more than twice that of the second quarter of 2021, and are growing rapidly.

Counterpoint senior analysts said that Samsung’s performance in the third quarter was higher than expected, with more than 60% of the Galaxy Watch 4 series sold in North America and Europe. In order to further expand its market share, Samsung is expected to launch lower-priced smartwatches in the next 2-3 years.

In terms of operating systems, Apple watchOS and Google Wear OS had the highest usage rates in the third quarter, thanks to Samsung’s use of Wear OS to replace Tizen in new products. The future market share of Google’s system is expected to expand further and become more open.
