Microsoft’s Win11 2022 update continues to modify the control panel

According to the latest report, Windows 11 is expected to receive major design improvements in the fall of 2022, and we have begun to receive build versions from the Dev channel.

Microsoft’s recently released Windows 11 Build 22509 preview version has made much-needed improvements to the “Start” menu and taskbar and continues to modify the control panel.

Windows 11 includes WinUI and many other page design improvements. However, the classic control panel still appears in the operating system along with the modern “Settings” panel. The control panel now supports a rounded UI to match the look and feel of Windows 11. Microsoft has also updated the icons in the control panel.

Microsoft has adopted a long-term strategy to gradually migrate the options in the control panel to the new “Settings” and redirect these migrated pages to the “Settings”.

This strategy was announced when Microsoft began to redirect the configuration and system information pages from the control panel to “Settings.” The transition is still in progress, and most of the advanced options in the control panel have not yet been migrated.

Moreover, Microsoft has no plan when to migrate all options from the control panel to the set deadline, but it looks like Windows 11 Build 22509 or 22H2 will migrate the advanced sharing settings from the control panel to the Windows settings.

In Windows 11 Build 22509, you will find advanced sharing settings on a new page of the Windows Settings application. Features such as network discovery, file and printer sharing, and public folder sharing will now appear under a page called Advanced Sharing Settings.

Furthermore, as part of the migration, Microsoft has also made additional improvements to the “Printers and Scanners” page in the settings. The specific device page in the settings can now display more information about your printer or scanner.

Of course, you will no longer be able to access the network and device settings in the classic control panel. If you want to modify the advanced sharing features of the operating system, just go to the corresponding page in the modern “Settings”.

In a recent podcast, Microsoft officials confirmed that future versions of Windows 11 will remove and migrate other advanced settings of the control panel.

Microsoft plans to completely cut down the control panel

These changes may not seem big, but they are indeed a necessary condition for the complete removal of the control panel in the future.

According to sources familiar with the development, Microsoft understands that the control panel and the settings application duplicate many functions, which may be confusing for new users.

The long-term strategy is to replace control panels and settings by migrating pages one by one. The unfinished items in the Windows 10 system will be implemented in the Windows 11 system.
