Steam will support Chromebooks officially

Chromebooks are very suitable for work and study, usually affordable, lightweight, and long battery life has a lot of shares in the market.

The function of Google Chrome OS is just enough for most people, but it is stretched out in terms of games. Steam is one of the most popular gaming platforms on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Although Chromebooks can run Steam with unofficial compatibility, they are still not as good as the native experience. According to the latest report, to the merger of Chromium Gerrit, Chrome OS’s native Steam may be launched this month.

Steam’s support for Chrome OS is codenamed “Borealis”, and Chrome OS 98 has already added a flag-it is expected to appear in the form of a Canary version.

Moreover, Steam on Chrome OS will be enabled through the Linux compatibility of Chrome OS. Although Crostini can be used to run the Steam Linux client on Chrome OS, the official support will provide users with a greatly improved experience.

Furthermore, Google seems to be committed to providing a good gaming experience on Chrome OS and has prepared a new “game mode” for the platform.

Besides, it is also found a submission indicating that Proton will have a game compatibility reporting system. Proton is a compatibility layer (led by Valve) that allows Windows-based games to run on Linux-based operating systems. It is based on Wine and integrated into the Steam client on Linux-based machines.
