Synology today launched the RT6600ax wireless router. This product has six external antennas, supports 802.11ax/Wi-Fi 6 standards, supports 4×4 MU-MIMO, and has a 2.5Gbps composite network port.

Moreover, this product supports the UNII-4 5.9 GHz frequency band for the first time, which is an extended frequency band of the 802.11ax/Wi-Fi 6 standard, not the 6 GHz frequency band used by WiFi 6E. UNII-4 has a total of 4 20MHz channels.

The biggest advantage is that it can add another 160 MHz bandwidth channel to the wireless network to alleviate network congestion and interference problems.

Furthermore, this frequency band is only used in the United States, but other countries and regions may consider opening this frequency band in the future. Synology did not disclose the details of the RT6600ax router but sources predict that it will use a Qualcomm chip.

In terms of interfaces, the router provides a Gigabit WAN port, three Gigabit LAN ports, and a 2.5Gb WAN/LAN dual-purpose network port, in addition to a USB 3.0 port. While it will also launch the SRM 1.3 operating system for NAS in the future in 2022,  and it is expected to bring features such as VPN Plus.

In addition, SRM 1.3 will bring VLAN support and more advanced wireless SSID support to improve network analysis tools. According to the official, Synology RT6600ax wireless router will be listed in the first quarter of 2022, and the price has not been announced yet. The sources expect the price to be higher than US$200.
