The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced in a blog post that Instagram will launch a new parental control function on its platform in March 2022.
They will allow parents and guardians to see how much time teenagers spend on Instagram, set time limits, and receive notifications when their children report someone, aiming to make the platform a safer place, especially for teenager users.

Although Mosseri’s post stated that these security features have been “used for a long time,” the announcement was made after a series of disruptive revelations about the social network owned by Meta.
Most notably, the internal documents leaked by the revealer Frances Haugen indicate that Instagram is aware that its service may make the body image problem of teenage female users worse.
This week, Mosseri will testify before a Senate committee, when he may be asked about the impact of Instagram on its young users.
Moreover, to the new parental controls, Instagram also said that it is developing an education center for parents and guardians to provide them with tips and tutorials on children’s social media use.
