The research institute Counterpoint announced the global IoT cellular mobile network module market report for the third quarter of 2021. Statistics show that shipments of such products in the third quarter increased by 70% year-on-year, and 5G modules increased by 700%.

In terms of shipment volume, Quectel, Fibocom, and China Mobile are the top three cellular IoT module manufacturers in China. Specifically, Quectel’s cellular IoT module shipments increased by nearly 80% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2021.
Moreover, NB-IoT and 4G Cat 1 modules were the main driving forces for sales. The brand won the bid for Great Wall Motor’s 5G module and high-speed rail module in the third quarter. It is expected that the sales of 5G modules will start to increase at the beginning of next year.
In terms of chips, Qualcomm has the highest market share of cellular mobile network chips, accounting for 37.2%. The chip of Chinese company Ziguang Zhanrui ranked second with a market share of 26.8%; HiSilicon’s chip accounted for 13.7%.
Furthermore, smart meters, POS machines, and retail terminals were the top three applications with the fastest growth in the third quarter. The continued shortage of chips has had a negative impact on the automotive sector, so sales of automotive modules have also been affected.
