According to the latest report, the 22nm high-voltage process jointly developed by UMC and Samsung will begin trial production verification in the first quarter of next year as soon as possible. At that time, Samsung will manufacture new OLED driver ICs.
Moreover, it is reported that UMC confirmed that the 22nm high-voltage process is being developed in response to customer needs, but the customer’s name could not be disclosed.

Currently, only Samsung among OLED driver IC manufacturers is capable of introducing UMC’s 22nm high-voltage process and will start small-scale trial production verification in the first quarter of next year at the earliest, with an initial production capacity of several thousand pieces, and then gradually scale up to tens of thousands of pieces.
The report pointed out that UMC’s 22nm process can reduce the die area by 10% compared to the original 28nm process, and has a better power efficiency ratio and stronger RF performance. The 22nm high-voltage process is increased from 1.8V/3.3V/5V/8V that which can support the maximum support of 10V/18V.
