In the second half of 2022, Apple will first launch the M2 chip code-named Staten, and then launch the new M2X chip architecture code-named Rhodes in the first half of 2023, and release M2 Pro and M2 Max according to the different display cores.
In addition, M2 Staten will still use an 8-core design, but the main frequency will be higher. GPU cores will increase from 7 or 8 in M1 to 9 or 10, which means that its CPU and graphics performance will be improved compared to M1, making it more suitable for platforms with higher GPU requirements.
It is worth mentioning that, from the data of research institutions, the current Apple M1 chip adopts a 5nm process, which is expected to account for 25% of TSMC’s current production capacity of 5nm process. Therefore, a new generation of high-end chips may be in short supply.
