The Messages app allows you to share your name and photo with others when you start or respond to a new message. The photo you share can be a Memoji, or custom image which you have selected when you started the Message app for the first time on your device. You can change your name, photo, or sharing options from the Message app’s settings anytime. In this article, we will tell you how you can change your name, photo, or sharing options in the Message app on your iPhone.

What is the Message app?

The Message app is an instant messaging service developed by Apple Inc. to send text messages over cellular service to people available on your contact list. You can send photos, videos, and other info to your contacts. You can also personalize your messages with animated effects, Memoji stickers, iMessage apps, and more.

How to change your name, photo, or sharing options in the Message app:

Step 1: Open the Messages app.

Step 2: Tap the More Options button.

Step 3: Tap Edit Name and Photo, then do any of the following:

    • Change your profile image: Tap Edit, then choose an option.
    • Change your name: Tap the text fields where your name appears.
    • Turn sharing on or off: Tap the button next to Name and Photo Sharing (green indicates that it’s on).
    • Change who can see your profile: Tap an option below Share Automatically (Name and Photo Sharing must be turned on).

Note: Your Messages name and photo can also be used for your Apple ID and My Card in Contacts.
