AMD said that the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX series processors will be available with the Lenovo ThinkStation P620, and did not say whether other brands will be pre-installed.

According to Tom’s Hardware, Lenovo has locked down all AMD Threadripper 5000 Pro CPUs running on its P620 workstation, which cannot be used in systems other than the platform.

To achieve this, Lenovo reportedly uses an AMD feature called Platform Secure Boot (PSB), which is built into AMD secure processors. The PSB feature is said to be designed to create a robust anti-malware defense system that prevents remote attackers from embedding malware into system firmware. The PSB also acts as an anti-theft tool, preventing a stolen CPU from working in other systems.

Moreover, the latest ThinkStation P620 is equipped with AMD’s new generation of Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX series processors, which improves performance by up to 25% compared to the previous generation.

In terms of expandability, the ThinkStation P620 is equipped with up to two NVIDIA RTX A6000 graphics cards, up to 1 TB of memory, and 20 TB of storage space.
