BOE will mass-produce new OLED panels: Report

According to the latest report, Samsung Display began to invest in the research and development of dual-stack tandem (2-stacktandem) OLED panels, BOE was also rumored to plan to invest in this technology research and development.

Moreover, BOE’s goal is to accumulate the technology needed to supply OLED panels for Apple’s IT products, hoping to get Apple’s first iPad orders for OLED screens. According to industry reports, BOE will mass-produce dual-stack tandem OLED panels in the second half of the year.

It was previously reported that Samsung’s research and development of dual-stack tandem structure OLED panels are also to meet the panel needs of Apple’s future iPad and Mac computers.

In addition, it is said that LG will also fulfill some orders from Apple because LG is relatively mature in the manufacturing technology of dual-stack tandem structure OLED panels.

Compared with the traditional single-stack structure OLED panel, the double-stack series structure OLED panel can increase the screen brightness by 2 times and prolong the lifespan by 4 times.

Furthermore, BOE still has some technical gaps, but this gap is gradually narrowing. If BOE can obtain a large number of orders for Apple’s new product panels, the overall cost of the equipment will be greatly reduced.

BOE’s investment in this technology at this time is likely to be able to further penetrate Apple’s supply chain in the future.
