FCC provides first sub-THz 6G technology development license

Keysight has received the first Spectrum Horizon Experiment License from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to develop 6G technology in the sub-terahertz band (above 95 GHz).

According to the latest report, Keysight is currently the first company to obtain FCC licenses above 246GHz and 275.5GHz. Roger Nichols, the company’s 5G and 6G program director, said: “Innovations in the sub-terahertz band will support use cases such as immersive telepresence, digital twins, and augmented reality, the combined real and virtual environments and environments produced by computer technology and wearables.

Human-Computer Interaction.” “The FCC license enables Keysight to strengthen the company’s commitment to 6G technology, enabling innovators to break new ground in next-generation communications systems.”

Keysight is a founding member of the mmWave Coalition, a group of innovative companies aiming to remove technical regulatory barriers, using frequencies ranging from 95 GHz to 450 GHz. Including this alliance activity, Keysight has been actively involved in advancing U.S. spectrum policy and has obtained multiple FCC licenses.

Kailash Narayanan, president of Keysight’s Communications Solutions Group, said: “Utilizing the sub-terahertz spectrum to power the next generation of wireless technology is one of the key elements in bridging the physical and digital worlds, which will bring creativity to people’s interactions with their surroundings.

“Keysight has played an active role in multiple government-funded 6G projects around the world. These are key to creating momentum for technology that will accelerate digitization and drive innovation for consumers, governments, and businesses.”
