Volkswagen will sell 2 million units fewer cars: Report

Volkswagen said on Tuesday that it sold 2 million fewer cars last year than originally planned due to a shortage of semiconductors. Volkswagen said continued supply delays, high commodity prices, and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict could hit growth in 2022.

Moreover, volatility in the market could continue into 2026, Volkswagen said, exacerbated by the situation in Russia and Ukraine, sending prices of key materials for car products such as nickel and palladium soaring.

Like Volkswagen, Ford has also been dealing with chip shortages, and to ease inventories amid a persistent shortage of chips, Ford plans to ship and sell vehicles missing certain non-critical chips and plans to replace the missing chips within a year.

Furthermore, chip shortages have already forced several automakers to cancel some features to speed up vehicle deliveries.
