Burrows, who previously served as head, chief technology officer, and director of Intel’s Advanced Technologies Group, which focuses on gaming and graphics technology, said he left Intel a month ago and finally decided to join AMD after considering “multiple possibilities.”
“This is very much in line with my principles of open innovation and will help drive the intersection of future hardware and real-time gaming and the graphics industry,” he said.
Before joining Intel in 2008, Burrows worked on Microsoft’s Xbox game console and DirectX software, according to his LinkedIn profile.
At AMD, Burrows will focus on real-time ray tracing and machine learning research. In addition, he will cover techniques related to the scaling of graphics and computing solutions, as well as data compression techniques.
