Linux Mint project unveiled release of LMDE 5

According to the latest report,  the Linux Mint project has announced the release of LMDE 5, codenamed Elsie, designed to provide the same features as Linux Mint 20.3, but it is built on Debian instead of Ubuntu.

While users can use LMDE 5, the main purpose of this project is to ensure the continuation of the Linux Mint project in case anything else happens to Ubuntu in the future.

Moreover, Wi-Fi driver support was a bit of a bummer in previous LMDE versions, but LMDE 5 seems to have fixed that, and now all cards that work in standard Linux Mint should work fine in LMDE as well. It is worth noting that if the user uses Yumi or Ventoy multi-boot tool, the installer will not work properly, you can directly write the image to the USB device and then install it.

Furthermore, the team has not released upgrade instructions yet, but if users are running LMDE 4 now, they need to be on the lookout for them. If LMDE 4 is treated the same as LMDE 3, it will be retired and stop receiving updates in just a few months. If users prefer an installation period of five years instead of two years, it is recommended to switch to the major Linux Mint distribution.
