Share of high-end Android phones in Chinese market has shrunk by 8%: Counterpoint

According to the latest research report of Counterpoint, in 2021, the market share of Android smartphones priced above US$600 in China will shrink from 44.6% in 2020 to 36.5% in 2021, highlighting the difficulty of domestic manufacturers to seize Huawei’s retention down the high-end market.

It said that the price range above $600 is more packed than ever because mobile phone manufacturers have successively adopted the strategy of multiple high-end mobile phones in parallel

For example, Xiaomi has Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra, Honor launched Magic V and Magic 4 series, and OPPO launched OPPO Find N and OPPO Find X5 series.

Although it is expected that domestic Android phones will regain some market share from Apple this year, such efforts will not be easy. Taking the Xiaomi series as an example, its sales in January 2022 will drop by about 60% from the previous year.

Furthermore, according to counterpoint, the three key areas that high-end devices must do well are the screen, photography, and gaming experience. Factors such as reliable connections, stereo audio, and fast-charging large batteries also play an important role.
