The case is part of a series of U.S. prosecutions aimed at curbing government-backed hacking. Federal prosecutors have charged an employee attached to the Russian Defense Ministry with installing “back doors” in computer systems and deploying malware designed to undermine the security of energy facilities.

Moreover, another indictment alleges that three employees of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) spent a year targeting and hacking computer systems in the energy industry.
