Blizzard explains signal marking system of ‘Overwatch 2’
Blizzard “Overwatch 2” will hold a beta test in April. There are many changes and updates to the PvP gameplay. One of the important new features is the “ping system”, which can easier to communicate with teammates.
“We wanted to create a system that augments and replaces the way teams share information, such as voice communication,” said Blizzard designer Gavin Winter in a blog post.

At present, the tagging system allows players to share information with teammates through other means than voice, and it is also convenient for players who do not want to open voice chat.
For example, you control Tracer now, and then find and mark the opponent’s Reaper information, then your teammates will hear Tracer call the Reaper’s location, and the tag will remain there until the opponent leaves your field of vision ( the marker stays at the last occurrence).
In addition, Blizzard has further detailed the system, which can provide players with more intelligence on how to move around the map without fear of being ambushed.
It’s worth mentioning that there’s also a new feature where you can ping your teammate’s location on the minimap, and others can then choose to respond to the ping.
However, reminding teammates of enemy locations is only one function of OW2’s marking system, which can also be used to inform teammates how to attack, defend, and need support next.
In addition, the tagging system also has an anti-abuse mechanism, if you don’t want to see someone keep tagging, you can block him.
After the beta test and the launch of the game, Blizzard will continue to collect feedback from players, continuously improve the marking system, improve the unpleasantness of players when playing the game, and create a signal system that can keep pace with the times.
