Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro / Max may equip with larger 48MP sensor

According to the latest report, Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple’s next-generation high-end mobile phones, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, may have thicker and more convex camera modules, mainly because the new main camera sensor is replaced, so it takes up more space.

Previous renders of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max suggest that while the overall design of the backs of the two phones is the same as the current iPhone 13 series, the dimensions will change, such as a possible longer screen ratio and a more pronounced camera bump.

Moreover, Kuo believes that Apple’s replacement of the original 12MP main sensor with a 48MP sensor is the main reason for the thicker camera bump on this generation of models.

He said that compared with the main camera unit of the iPhone 13 Pro, the diagonal length of the new-generation 48MP module will increase by about 25% to 35%, while the height (thickness) of its 7P lens will increase by 5% to 10%.

It is worth mentioning that Digital Chat Station also stated that the area of the rear lens module of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro series will be larger, and even the horizontal ratio has far exceeded 1/2 of the width of the fuselage.

It has been nearly 7 years since Apple last increased the number of pixels when it launched its ninth-generation iPhone, the iPhone 6s, in 2015, and the new generation of sensors not only has more pixels but may also have more pixels. It is large, so it is expected to achieve better photographic quality in low light conditions.

According to previous reports, the new-generation 48MP main camera will be a 1/1.3-inch sensor, but it will only have a 1.25µm unit pixel area compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s 1.7µm.

In the case of insufficient light, the iPhone 14 Pro will use multi-pixel technology to achieve a larger pixel size to achieve better shooting effects, such as the current IMX766’s four-in-one 2.0um large pixel. It is said that the new 48MP sensor will also support 8K video shooting.

In other respects, slightly more reliable rumors include: the Pro model will abandon the “notch” in favor of a punch-hole screen, and may be equipped with a faster and more power-efficient A16 Pro chip.

While the regular iPhone 14 and Max, models will remain “Liu Hai” is designed to be next year, and maybe equipped with a fine-tuned version of the A15, the A16, which is expected to be released in September.
