Hyundai’s new-generation Sonata Hybrid equipped with solar charging panels

Hyundai’s latest hybrid Sonata is equipped with solar cells on the roof. After a full day of baking in the sun, the car’s range can increase by 3-4 miles (about 4.83-6.44 kilometers).

In fact, Hyundai has promoted this model as early as 2020, but it doesn’t seem to have launched it. Now Hyundai looks set to unveil the 2022 Sonata Hybrid.

Hyundai’s official website states that the Sonata Hybrid’s solar panels have a capacity of 204W. That is, 200Wh of electricity will be produced under good lighting conditions. 200Wh isn’t for nothing, but it’s almost impossible to impress with the EV trend.

After all, any charger is 50 times faster than the little solar cell on the roof of the Sonata. Hyundai believes that 5.8 hours of charging per day can add 1,300 kilometers of total driving range per year, and many people drive less than 2.5 miles a day, and even if you don’t drive, you can get a few kilometers of battery life in vain after a few days.

Hyundai’s official website shows that the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will only be equipped with a solar roof feature on the highest-end version, which is a limited-edition model that starts at $35,500.
