Samsung preparing for mass production of SSDs with next-generation interfaces 

According to the latest report, Samsung is preparing for mass production of SSDs with next-generation interfaces and is currently diversifying its solid-state drive (SSD) tester supply chain.

The South Korean tech giant recently held an open tender meeting for SSD tester suppliers to win over new suppliers, the sources said. Samsung has now found the candidate it wants.

It is reported that this meeting is to determine the supplier of SSD burn-in tester and SSD post-tester. The aging tester can test whether the chip can perform stably and well under extreme conditions.

At present, all SSDs for enterprises need to undergo aging tests. After all, they are used in high-temperature environments such as data centers is the most important. Allegedly, Samsung has purchased SSD burn-in testers from South Korea’s Exicon, and Exicon is the main supplier of the equipment. 

To avoid being caught in the supply chain, Samsung recently launched a tender to ensure that second-tier suppliers, including Neosem, Advantest, and Teledyne, had submitted bids. In addition, the SSD post-tester will be used to confirm whether the SSD to be shipped has the same read and write performance as the initial setting. 

Moreover, Samsung is looking for a new primary supplier and no longer intends to source from previous suppliers. Exicon and Neosem are working hard to bid on this project.

It is reported that Intel and AMD are preparing to launch server processors that support PCIe 5.0 SSDs, and SSD manufacturers such as Samsung have also developed SSDs that support PCIe 5.0 interfaces and are ready to launch this year.
