According to the latest report, electric car maker Tesla launched its advanced driver assistance system “Full Self Driving” beta (FSD Beta) in Canada, marking the system is officially expanded outside the United States.
At present, the FSD Beta has been updated to version 2022.4.5.20 (that is, FSD Beta 10.11.1), and only Canadian Tesla owners with a “safety score” of 100 are eligible to participate in the test.

But late-night testing by several Toronto car owners showed that the FSD Beta wouldn’t work in the city center, and the message on the in-car display was: Full Self-Driving cannot be activated at the current location.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the company has geofenced FSD Beta in the area because the software couldn’t handle Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) streetcars.
Musk did not provide the exact boundaries of the geofence, though, but based on initial reports, it appears to be restricted to just south of Danforth/Bloor Rd. Tesla sent a lidar-equipped Model Y to Ontario for validation earlier this week, and the TTC streetcar impact may be partly to blame.
For Canadians, the wait for the FSD Beta has been a long one, and Musk has long since mentioned that the project might expand to other countries. The public beta of FSD was released in the US back in October 2020.
Moreover, FSD is a CAD plug-in for Autopilot, Tesla’s driver-assistance technology suite, which costs $10,600. It remains to be seen whether Tesla will launch a monthly FSD subscription service in Canada as it has in the US.
By releasing the FSD Beta to more countries, it shows that Tesla has enough confidence in the technology. In the U.S. alone, the number of people participating in testing has ballooned to more than 60,000 .
Furthermore, many road rules and signs in Canada are similar to those in the United States, there are differences. This makes it more interesting to see how FSD Beta adapts to these differences, but also more complicated.
While there were rumors early on in the FSD Beta launch that Norway would be one of the first countries to expand, Musk recently said that the FSD Beta might not launch in Europe until later this year.
