Porsche working with Quantumscape to develop electric version of 911 model

According to the latest report, Porsche is working with Quantumscape to develop an electric version of the 911 model with a solid-state battery.

In a recent financial conference call, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume revealed that Porsche will deliver more than 300,000 vehicles worldwide in 2021, of which 41,296 will be the pure electric version of the Taycan, which even surpasses the gasoline version of the Porsche 911.

At present, Porsche is actively carrying out its electrification transformation, and the pure electric version of the Macan will be launched soon. Porsche has previously announced that 80% of new car sales will be purely electrified by 2030.

To achieve this goal, Porsche needs to launch a variety of electric versions as soon as possible to provide consumers with a variety of choices.

1. Accelerate electrification. In 2030, pure electric models will account for 80%

Porsche’s launch of an electric version of the 911 is one of its moves to accelerate the transition to electrification.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume once said: “By 2025, half of Porsche’s new car sales are expected to come from electric vehicles – pure electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid vehicles. By 2030, the proportion of pure electric vehicles in new cars sold Should be more than 80%.”

At the same time, Oliver Blume also revealed that the Porsche 718 will be purely electrified in the mid-2020s. In addition, to accelerate electrification, Porsche made its first foray into batteries last June, investing in Customcells with which it created a new company, Cellforce, while investing in charging infrastructure through partners and its own network.

“Batteries are the ‘combustion engine’ of the future. As a new subsidiary of Porsche, Cellforce will play an important role in driving the development, production, and sales of high-performance batteries,” says Oliver Blume.

2. Cooperate with Quantumscape to develop battery parent company Volkswagen as the former major shareholder

It is reported that the power battery of the electric version of the 911 that Porsche is developing is a solid-state battery. According to the source, Porsche has been working with American solid-state battery manufacturer Quantumscape to integrate the developed solid-state battery into new cars.

It is worth noting that Volkswagen Group, the parent company of Porsche, is the largest shareholder of Quantumscape. Volkswagen invested 100 million US dollars in 2018 and another 200 million US dollars.

Moreover, Porsche, as one of the most successful brands in electrification transformation under the Volkswagen Group, has achieved good results with its first purely electric model, the Taycan.

Previously, Taycan has had multiple air-to-air duels with Tesla Model S, and it is not inferior to Tesla in terms of acceleration. The news that the Porsche 911 is about to launch an electric version also reflects Porsche’s determination to accelerate electrification.
