If an iPhone is reported as lost or stolen in the GSMA device registration database, the device will be authorized by Apple Stores and Apple when customers send in the device for repair. The service provider refused to repair and gave details.

If Apple technicians see a message in its internal MobileGenius or GSX system that the device is reported as missing, they are instructed to refuse repairs, according to a memo Apple shared on Monday.

The new policy is believed to help reduce the number of stolen iPhones sent to Apple for official repairs. The GSMA Device Registry is a global database designed to allow customers to report lost or stolen devices if they are lost or stolen.

Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can only provide very limited service capabilities if customers can’t disable the “Find My” feature which is usually enabled by the previous owner and can only be turned off after authentication.
