According to 9to5Google, Google’s Android team has started developing tracker detection in Play Services. The latest APK code includes references to Tile trackers and AirTags and hints that Android users will be able to alert on detected devices.

The feature is in the early stages of development, and it may take a while for Google to release it publicly. If the feature does roll out, we should learn more at I/O in May. So that wait for a little while.

Apple introduced a variety of detection methods to prevent tracking against AirTag. The AirTags will play an audible reminder after being separated from the owner for 24 hours, and iPhone users will also be able to receive a notification.

However, Android users don’t seem to be able to receive similar notifications, and Google’s new feature is expected to make up for this shortcoming. Android users may receive notifications later.
