Apple will allow ‘reader’ apps to use external links

According to the latest report, Apple issued a reminder to developers, bringing an update to the distribution of the “Reader” App.

Last year, Apple announced an update to the App Store in early 2022 that would allow Reader app developers to provide a link to its website in the app for users to create or manage accounts.

Moreover, Apple said that starting today, guideline 3.1.3 (a) in the App Store Review Guidelines will be updated to clarify that developers of Reader apps can now apply for account authorization for external links.

Furthermore, the authorization will allow the reader app to link to a website owned or maintained by the developer so that users can create or manage their accounts outside the app.

A reader app is an app that provides one or more types of digital content, such as magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music, or video, as its primary function.
