Germany’s Berlin Gigafactory can produce a Model Y every 10 hours: Tesla

Posted on

After the opening ceremony was held on March 22 and 30 vehicles were delivered to users on-site (these customers are actually local employees), the Mode Y produced by Tesla’s Berlin super factory is also ready. Delivery outside the factory via a service center.

With the help of a drone, @Tobias Lindh recently flew over the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin and found carloads of Model Y’s being shipped out of the factory. As Tesla’s German factory ramps up Model Y production and deliveries, we’ll see more about the Tesla Model Y next.

According to feedback from users, Model Y made in Germany has already been sold and delivered to European countries such as Belgium, Italy, Denmark, and the Netherlands.

Moreover, Tesla plans to produce about 500,000 cars and batteries in the Berlin factory every year, and some users are even optimistic that the Berlin Gigafactory can produce more than 1 million cars per year in the first phase of the project.

Furthermore, Tesla has only confirmed that it will produce the Model Y in Germany at present, but the company can also produce the Model 3 without too many modifications to the production line. The first batch of Model Y electric cars produced at the Berlin plant will be equipped with 2170-type cylindrical batteries, followed by 4680-type cylindrical batteries.

Tesla says its new factory in Grunheide, near the German capital, can produce a Model Y in just 10 hours, while Volkswagen takes three times as long to produce the ID.3 electric car. Volkswagen is now aiming to shorten production times at its “Trinity” electric car factory, which is expected to start production in 2026, by using technologies such as large die-casting while cutting the number of auto parts by hundreds.

It is reported that Christian Vollmer, head of the production at the Volkswagen brand, said: “Our goal is clear: we want to set the standard for production. If we can do 10 hours [to produce a car], we have achieved a lot.”
