U.S. Justice Department accelerates antitrust probe into Google Maps

According to the latest report, two people familiar with the matter said that the U.S. Justice Department has re-emphasized its antitrust investigation of Google Maps to determine whether the illegal bundling of the service with other Google software will kill its competition.

Moreover, the Google probe, which first came to light in late 2020, has remained silent until investigators began asking again in recent months, the sources said. Google said it will cooperate with regulators and welcomes their questions. The Justice Department declined to comment.

The survey is divided into two parts. Part of it focuses on applications such as navigation provided through the car’s screen. In response, Google responded that this integration provides users with the best experience, and in some cases, rival voice assistants are compatible with Google Maps.

Furthermore, the other part focuses on developers of apps and websites. Specifically, the department is investigating Google’s requirement that if a website or app uses one of Google’s technology, it cannot use maps or other technologies developed by Google’s competitors.
