Roscosmos considering extension of ISS cooperation to 2030: NASA

According to the latest report, NASA said on Thursday that the Russian space agency was considering extending its participation in the International Space Station until 2030.

NASA and Roscosmos have been the two largest partners of the International Space Station for the past 30 years. The two agencies previously agreed to collaborate on the International Space Station project until 2024.

But at the end of last year, the United States announced that it would extend the International Space Station project to 2030, and Russia has not yet formally agreed to the extension.

Although Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin has hinted at reconsidering the partnership with the United States, Roscosmos has not made a strong “rejection” to plans to extend the ISS program, even The cooperation program may continue to be extended. 

“All of our international partners, including Roscosmos, are making progress toward extending the International Space Station through 2030,” said Kathy Lueders, NASA’s associate administrator for space operations.

Lueders Each of the partners on the ISS must go through a budget process and receive final government approval before an extension can be finalized, Si added. “Even in very, very, very difficult times, we all understand the importance of this ongoing collaboration,” Rudes said.

Joel Montalbano, NASA’s International Space Station program director, had discussed the possibility of extending the project with Roscosmos officials while NASA was working for astronaut Mark Vande Hei Get ready to return to Earth in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. 

“At the program level, we will continue to discuss and continue to work toward the extension to 2030,” said Dana Weigel, NASA’s deputy program administrator for the International Space Station. Talking about the topic, there are currently no changes to the plan.”

Moreover, Weigel also said that NASA expects to make another major update on the progress of the International Space Station project extension plan in late April or early May of this year.
