Moreover, Samsung has reportedly informed its customers that it will continue to take DDR3 memory orders through the end of 2022 and fulfill those orders by the end of 2023. 1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb DDR3 chips are expected to be discontinued. SK Hynix is also phasing out DDR3 SDRAM production, but it’s unclear when exactly.

In addition, DRAM manufacturers Nanya Technology, Winbond Electronics, Etron Technology, and Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology (ESMT) do not plan to continue offering DDR3 SDRAM to their customers.

Furthermore, mainstream PC and notebook platforms have already used DDR4 / LPDDR4 and the latest DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory. However, some routers, switches, and other products are still using DDR3 memory. The sources believe that after Samsung and SK Hynix stop producing DDR3 memory, the prices of these IC products may rise.
