According to the latest report, Apple is working with LG to develop foldable OLED display panels and ultra-thin cover glass for future iPad and MacBook models. The report explains that LG Display will supply HP this year with a 17-inch foldable 4K OLED panel for an in-folding notebook with an 11-inch display when closed.

LG Display has more and more expertise in foldable OLED displays, providing a 13.3-inch display panel for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. In addition to foldable OLED notebook panels for HP, Apple is working with LG Display to “develop another foldable OLED panel,” according to the report. The panel will allegedly use an ultra-thin cover glass instead of the polyimide used by most other foldable displays today.
Moreover, the report suggests that Apple’s large foldable device is in the works, a claim that seems to be in line with a recent report from display analyst Ross Young that Apple is exploring a full-screen foldable notebook with a display size of around 20 inches.
These devices could form an entirely new product category for Apple, Young said, and form a dual-use product that functions as a notebook with a full-size on-screen keyboard when folded, a display when unfolded, and uses an external keyboard. Ross Young added that these devices have 4K or higher resolutions in the sizes Apple is working on.
While Ross Young described the device as a “foldable notebook,” it seemed at the time that such a full-screen device might actually be a foldable iPad Pro, and today’s report suggests that Apple and LG are developing display panels for both tablets Computers are also suitable for notebooks.
