According to Microsoft’s official Windows 11 Health Dashboard document, Microsoft has set up an update module for some Internet Explorer users. If users do not accept the prompt to import browsing data into Edge before installing Windows 11, they may not be able to access Internet Explorer data after upgrading to Windows 11.

Moreover, Microsoft said it is currently working to fix a bug that could lead to potential data loss. An upcoming patch will allow Windows 10 users to update and restore inaccessible data for those who have already updated to Windows 11.

Meanwhile, Internet Explorer users who want to use Windows 11 can manually import data from Internet Explorer into the Edge browser, bypassing the update module. Microsoft plans to retire Internet Explorer and stop supporting the browser on June 15, 2022. On the other hand, IE mode in Edge will be supported until at least 2029.
